Having root-level access to your server means that you can view and change any file on it, which includes essential system files. You may also set up software which can modify specific settings on the server during the process, so the installation can be performed only if you are signed in as the root user. The latter has full privileges, which means that you will have full control over your machine at any time and you will be able to perform anything you need. You can also generate additional users either with the same rights or with fewer rights, according to what you require them for - everyday tasks, other server admins, etcetera. To be on the safe side, it is usually recommended to use the root account only when you actually need it and not for tasks that you can do using other accounts. You can use a web-based graphical interface or a Secure Shell console to connect to the server and to manage it at the root level.

If you acquire a VPS devoid of Control Panel, you'll have full root-level access and you can take care of everything through a console, unless you set up some third-party software instrument. The servers that are ordered with the DirectAdmin or the cPanel hosting Control Panel also come with full root access, yet most of the things which are linked to your world-wide web content can be performed via a graphical interface and not a console. The difference between these options is that when you select cPanel or DirectAdmin, you'll have a web-based graphical interface to take care of a variety of server-side options and any web content which you generate or upload, whereas if you order the server without a Control Panel, you'll have to perform everything with a Secure Shell console or to set up a Control Panel of your own liking, if it's compatible with the Operating System which you've selected throughout the sign up process. With the third Control Panel option that you will be able to choose on the order page - Hepsia, the root access will be limited.
