An AAAA record is an IP address in the recently released IPv6 format and it is comprised of 8 different groups of hexadecimal digits, in contrast to the IPv4 IPs, that include 4 sets of digits between 1 and 255. An illustration of an IPv6 address would be 3014:0d43:23a3:2354:1320:8f3b:2635:3254 and in this format the sheer number of IPs which can be created is many times greater than the number of the IPv4 addresses. Each domain name has its hosting server IP address as a record and in essence, that record informs the domain where the website for it is. Depending on the system which the service provider uses, the record will be called A (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6). Changing this record enables you to host your website with one company and your email messages with another, so if you choose to use such a redirection to forward a domain name to a server that uses an IPv6 address, you'll have to create an AAAA record for it.
AAAA Records in Shared Hosting
The state-of-the-art Hepsia web hosting CP, which comes with our shared hosting, allows you to create a new AAAA record easily. When you're inside the account and you navigate to the DNS Records section, you'll discover all records you have for any hosted domain name or a subdomain under it. All it takes to create the AAAA record is to click the New Record button, to choose the domain/subdomain in question, choose AAAA and then just input or copy and paste the IPv6 address. We've got a step-by-step guide if you have never created records for your domains, but it's unlikely that you'll need it as Hepsia is much easier to work with compared with other Control Panels available. Within an hour your new record will be functioning and your domain name shall start resolving to the servers of the other provider. There's also an option to change the TTL value, which outlines how long this record will be working if you modify it, from the standard 3600 seconds to any value which the other service provider may require.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Creating a new AAAA record is incredibly easy using our user-friendly Hepsia hosting CP, so if you host a domain name inside a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you want such a record either for it or for a subdomain that you've created under it, you're going to be able to create it in just a few rather simple steps and with no hassle. Hepsia includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains where you can find all existing records or set up new ones with a few mouse clicks. All it takes to do that is to select the domain/subdomain that you would like to edit, choose AAAA for the type from a drop-down menu and type the actual record i.e. the IPv6 address which the other company has given you. Within an hour after you save the modification, the new record is going to propagate worldwide and your domain name will start directing to the third-party hosting server. If they demand it, you can even edit the TTL value, which shows the time this record will be functioning with its present value before a new one kicks in if you make any modifications in the future.
